Whether it's a robo-barista, avatar or intelligent POS systems – the age of coffee business 4.0 has begun. Our coffee machines offer all the possibilities of digital networking. The IoT hub, developed together with INSIDE M2M, NTT Data and Cloudflight, creates the basis for innovations in record time for us and our customers. Two examples of this are our partner projects with the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences (TH OWL) and the IT service provider NTT DATA Business Solutions.

Barista 4.0: Robot arm serves coffee as desired
Less manual work thanks to further attractive automation: In the Centrum Industrial IT (CIIT), the "Barista 4.0" serves the coffee speciality as desired, tastily prepared with the Melitta® Cafina® XT6. Our joint project with the Institute for Industrial Information Technology (inIT), the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences (TH OWL) in Lemgo, is an eye-catcher and creative meeting place for employees, students and visitors.
For communication between the robot arm and the coffee machine, we offer an integrated digital interface, known as an API (application programming interface) for short, in addition to the actual coffee machine. This interface enables customers who already use an IoT infrastructure to integrate our coffee machines into their existing system. If you don't use your own IoT infrastructure, you can use our online portal Melitta® INSIGHTS to access the processed data of your coffee machines at your desk or on the go. The smart and intuitive platform offers many convenient options for analyzing and optimizing the coffee business.
Melitta App ONSite
In the Media Center, for example, special offers can be installed on the coffee machines as screensavers. With the Melitta ONSite app, the coffee machines can be monitored at any time on the smartphone. Push notifications inform you in good time when bean or milk supplies are running low, the set drawer needs to be emptied or cleaning is due. Downtimes and waiting times at the machines can thus be efficiently avoided.

It.human: Avatar talks to people and coffee machine
With the digital assistant it.human, NTT DATA Business Solutions is making our fully automatic coffee machine "virtually speak by making the telemetry data more usable," explains Dries Guth, Head of Co-Innovation Labs & Ecosystems. The joint project is an attraction on the international roadshow of the globally active SAP consulting company.
As can be seen in the video, visitors can interact with the avatar and, for example, order a coffee.
To do this, our partner uses the digital interfaces (API, application programming interface) of the Melitta IoT Hub to remotely control our coffee machine.
Integrated technologies of the it.human platform Digital Human (Avatar):
Speech recognition (natural language processing, speech-to-text, text-to-speech), image recognition (camera to detect eye contact) and communication via microphone or touchscreen.
